King Jehu and Lessons for America

Before I discuss the part about America I want to lay the historical foundation of King Jehu, king of the Northern Kingdom of Israel.
Jehu, son of Jehoshaphat was a military commander who rose to prominence during a time of spiritual and political upheaval in the northern kingdom of Israel. His story is told primarily in 2 Kings 9–10, where he is divinely chosen to execute judgment on the corrupt house of Ahab (which would include wicked Queen Jezebel).
Jehu’s rise begins when a young prophet, sent by Elisha, anoints him king at Ramoth-Gilead. This secret commission declares him the instrument of God’s wrath against Ahab’s dynasty and the idolatry it perpetuated.
Jehu swiftly acts. He kills King Joram of Israel and King Ahaziah of Judah, both linked to Ahab’s lineage. He famously confronts and orchestrates the death of Queen Jezebel, fulfilling Elijah’s earlier prophecy.
In a cunning move, Jehu gathers all Baal worshipers under the guise of a grand sacrifice, only to slaughter them and destroy the temple of Baal—effectively ending its worship in Israel.
Though Jehu was praised for his zeal in eliminating idolatry, he failed to fully turn Israel back to covenantal faithfulness. One fatal
flaw that he made was that he did not destroy the golden calves at Bethel and Dan. He allowed the calf worship to continue. His reign, though long (28 years), was marked by ongoing instability.
Jehu is one of the few Israelite kings mentioned in Assyrian records. The Black Obelisk of Shalmaneser III depicts him bowing in tribute, offering a rare archaeological glimpse into his reign.
Anyone who believes in the Word of God as truth that is to be lived and practiced, as our rule of faith and discipline, should be able to see that America has slipped down a long and slippery slope of idolatry just as the nation of Israel had in the days of Jehu.
Idolatry takes many names and has many faces. We may not offer our children at the feet of some graven image called Molech but we offer them up to abortion for the self-serving interests of self worship. We have truly become a nation that has undermined the very foundation of established creation. The things that God called “good” have now become perverted and twisted by corrupt politicians and people groups within our nation. They have shoved these foreign notions down our throats for many years now. Good is truly called evil and evil has become good.
Anyone looking for patterns, and there are plenty of them, should be able to see that Donald Trump certainly parallels that of Cyrus of Persia in many regards. In addition, I can see parallels between he and King Jehu.
President Trump defeated two prominent women who were running against him. I won’t name names or call them Jezebel (I will leave that to you the reader) but I do find it interesting to say the least.
President Trump is trying his best to restore America back to an earlier time period where morality and Biblical standards were honored. Is he perfect? No! Is he much better than what we have had in recent times? Yes!
My prayer is that he, like Jehu, is successful in tearing down most of these stumbling blocks of iniquity that our nation has instituted. He has already torn down many of them.
How long will it last and how much can he accomplish? Well, if ancient Israel and King Jehu are examples, it won’t last too long. Jehu never tore down the calf idols nor ended their worship. Why didn’t he? Maybe they had just been there too long and the worship was too entrenched. There will be many things that Trump can’t fix. The damage is too deep. The poison has infected too many of our citizens.
The revival that Jehu brought was short lived and Israel quickly reverted back to their full-blown idolatry.
A short reprieve is probably the most we can hope for. America has become entrenched in its debauchery and abominations.
The Bible commands that we pray for our leaders. We need to pray for our President and his cabinet to do the right thing. We need to pray that our nation would repent of its sins so that this can truly be a re-birth of our once great nation.
We need to pray that God is put back in our schools again. We will never have revival and re-birth if we don’t recapture our children’s educational systems. Our colleges and universities, many founded as religious institutions, need to be re-captured. Were you aware that the first primer in America (The New England Primer) was built upon the Bible and that it was used for almost 200 years to teach our children in schools across America?
Whichever way this goes- I believe the results are up to us. I believe the President is trying his best but he needs our help through much prayer and support.
Pray without ceasing!
These are just my thoughts,
Leisa
