The Flood and the Fallen Ones - A Reset of Creation

The Flood of Noah and Reset of Creation
The Flood of Noah and Reset of Creation

Primary text: Genesis 6:1–9

“When men began to increase on earth and daughters were born to them, the divine beings saw how beautiful the daughters of men were and took wives from among those that pleased them.” — Genesis 6:1–2, JPS Tanakh

Genesis 6 opens with a mysterious account of divine beings (b’nei haElohim) intermingling with humanity. The JPS (Jewish Publication Society)  translation affirms these were “divine beings,” not merely human nobles. Their union with human women produced the Nephilim (fallen ones) - giants and warriors of renown (Genesis 6:4).

This phrase b’nei haElohim appears elsewhere only in Job 1:6; 2:1; 38:7, where it clearly refers to angelic beings who present themselves before Adonai. This consistency supports the interpretation that Genesis 6 describes fallen heavenly beings—not human lineages.

The Book of Enoch (1 Enoch 6–10) expands this narrative in vivid detail. He calls them watchers and states there were 200 fallen angels. The book names the leaders of the fallen angels—chief among them Semjaza and Azazel—who descended to Mount Hermon and bound themselves by oath.. They took human wives and taught forbidden arts:

• Weaponry and warfare

• Sorcery and enchantments

• Astrology and signs

• Root-cutting and occult medicine

Azazel is singled out for teaching humanity how to make swords, shields, and cosmetics—tools of violence and vanity. The offspring of these unions were giants who devoured all that humans produced, and when food ran out, they turned on mankind. Enoch records that the earth cried out, and God responded with judgment.

Two interpretations persist regarding these passages:

• Divine beings (traditional view):

Supported by Job, Enoch, Jubilees, and New Testament texts, this view affirms that rebellious angels corrupted creation.

• Human lineages (sons of Seth and daughters of Cain):

This view lacks textual support. Human unions do not produce Nephilim, and b’nei haElohim is never used for Seth’s descendants. The supernatural consequences described in Genesis 6 demand a supernatural cause.

The animals were also corrupted:

Genesis 6:12–13 (CJB) states:

“God saw the earth, and yes, it was corrupt—for all living beings had corrupted their ways on the earth.”

Talmud Sanhedrin 108a affirms that even animals were corrupted, possibly through genetic manipulation or Nephilim defilement. Ancient cave art—such as the Tassili N’Ajjer paintings in Algeria and Sego Canyon petroglyphs in Utah—depict hybrid beings and towering figures. Greek mythology preserves similar echoes in the Titans, Minotaur, and Centaurs—beings born of divine/human or divine/animal unions.

Yeshua warned in Matthew 24:37–39 (CJB):

“For the Son of Man’s coming will be just as it was in the days of Noach. Back then, before the Flood, people went on eating and drinking, taking wives and becoming wives, right up till the day Noach entered the ark; and they didn’t know what was happening until the Flood came and swept them all away.”

This prophecy points not only to moral blindness but to the corruption of the human seed. Today, we see disturbing parallels:

• Human DNA manipulation: Scientists have created human eggs from skin cells using cloning technology.

• Synthetic genomes: UK researchers are building artificial human chromosomes from scratch.

• Gene-edited children: CRISPR technology has been used to alter human embryos.

• Hybrid vegetation: Experiments have introduced animal DNA into plants for pharmaceutical use.

These developments (and many more) echo the ancient defilement of creation. Just as in Noah’s day, the boundaries of created life are being transgressed. Evil mankind is corrupting what the Creator called “good” in the beginning. Man has no right to manipulate what God designed. Punishment will surely follow just as in the days of Noah.

These details are also recorded:

Genesis 6:5 Adonai saw that the people on earth were very wicked, that all the imaginings of their hearts were always of evil only.

Genesis 6:13 God said to Noach, "The end of all living beings has come before me, for because of them the earth is filled with violence….

We can see these things on the rise- (violence and continual evil) worldwide! In the US there is currently a growing problem where certain groups believe that it is OK to assassinate someone just because you disagree.

The flood was not only judgment—it was mercy. Noah’s ark became a womb of rebirth, echoing the Spirit hovering over the waters in Genesis 1:2. Noach’s righteousness preserved the divine image and safeguarded the possibility of redemption. Noach was a type of Messiah and his name means “comfort”. Just as salvation and redemption came with Noach and the flood, so also will Yeshua Messiah usher in a re-birth.

All of this should remind us that spiritual compromise opens doors to destruction. But through obedience, intimacy with God, and discernment, we become vessels of restoration. We must never cease sharing the good news of the Kingdom that is “physically” coming soon. All things will be restored as “in the beginning” by Yeshua our Messiah.
